Air Transat began operations in November 1987 with its first flight between Montreal and Acapulco. That same year, the airline launched direct flights from Paris to Montreal, using an L1011 Tristar aircraft. In subsequent years, Air Transat has continuously expanded its flight offer from Europe to Canada, including from Amsterdam and Brussels, from 1992 and 1993 respectively.

The airline offers direct flights to Canada from Brussels (to Montreal), Amsterdam (to Toronto and Montreal) and Paris (to Montreal, Quebec and Toronto) as well as numerous connecting flights to other Canadian cities.
